Beige Mid Waisted Polka Dot Tankini Set

Nude swimwear is not one color, which is the first thing to settle. The group runs from a very pale ivory through sand and beige to caramel and deep taupe, and the whole idea is that it sits near a skin tone rather than announcing itself as a color. Which one qualifies depends entirely on whose skin it is next to.
That makes it the opposite of a bright. A yellow suit looks the same on everyone and simply suits some people better. A neutral changes character completely depending on contrast — the same beige reads as barely-there against fair skin and as a clear pale contrast against deeper skin. Neither is wrong, but they are different garments in effect.
Worth saying plainly, because the search results for this word are a mess: nude here is a color family, not an absence of one. If you arrived looking for minimal coverage rather than a neutral shade, that is a different category altogether.
The more useful point is that the word itself has never worked very well. A single "flesh" tone only ever matched one skin tone, and everybody else was left out of it. The way round that is to stop treating it as a match and start treating it as a range — ivory through sand and caramel to deep taupe — and then to choose by contrast rather than by likeness. Which is the same conclusion the next section arrives at from a different direction.
This is where the shade demands more than any other, and it is worth being direct about it. A pale skin-tone fabric on a single layer will go translucent when wet, the same way white does. The difference is that with a neutral the effect is easier to miss until you are already out of the water.
The answer is a full lining, and the description is the only place to confirm it before ordering — look for fully lined rather than lined bust. Deeper taupe and caramel shades carry far less risk because there is more dye absorbing light. If you want the neutral look with none of the checking, that end of the range is the straightforward choice.
Two things decide it. The first is contrast: pick a shade a step or two away from your own skin tone rather than trying to match it exactly, because an exact match is where the garment stops reading as a garment. A step lighter or darker keeps the neutral effect while keeping the outline clear.
Skin also changes across a summer, which is worth allowing for. A shade chosen in May against untanned skin can read closer than intended by August, so a slightly deeper neutral tends to hold its effect across the whole season rather than one week of it.
The second is undertone. Sand and caramel run warm and sit well with gold hardware and tanned skin. Taupe and stone run cool and hold up better beside silver and cooler skin tones. Getting this right matters more than the exact depth — a warm neutral on a cool undertone reads muddy in a way that has nothing to do with fit.
A neutral suit is the most useful thing in a swim drawer for one reason: it disappears under everything. A printed cover-up over a beige suit works where the same cover-up over a print does not, and a plain neutral bottom pairs with any top you already own.
For the same reason it is the shade to buy in a cut you already know fits. A ruched front in beige gives you tummy control in a color that goes with everything, and a neutral one piece is closer to a wardrobe staple than a seasonal buy. Anyone who wants the neutral effect without the lining question should look at the black range instead, which achieves the same go-with-anything result from the opposite end.
