Colored T-Shirts

What Are T-Shirts With Colored Sleeves Called?

A T-shirt with sleeves in a different color from the body is usually called a raglan tee. The name comes from the sleeve construction: raglan sleeves run in one piece from the collar to the underarm, creating a diagonal seam across the shoulder. That seam makes it easy to use a contrasting color for the sleeves.

Raglan tees are often associated with baseball shirts, which typically have three-quarter sleeves in a darker color than the white or gray body. They look sporty, relaxed and a little retro.

A ringer tee is a different style. It has a contrasting color only on the neckband and sleeve cuffs, like a thin ring of color. Ringers were popular in the seventies and have come back as a casual, vintage-feeling option.

Both styles are easy to wear because the contrast sits at the edges of the shirt rather than across the whole body.

Raglan sleeves also have a practical benefit: the diagonal seam gives more room through the shoulders and arms, so raglan tees feel easy to move in and suit broad shoulders well.

Contrast piping and trim, where a thin line of color runs along seams or pockets, is a quieter cousin of the ringer. It adds a little interest without changing the overall color of the shirt.

Multicolor Prints and Color Blocking

Color blocking uses large, solid sections of different colors on one garment. On a T-shirt, that might mean a panel of one color across the chest and another across the body, or different colors on the front and sleeves.

Color blocking can be flattering. Placing a darker color at the sides and a lighter color in the center creates a narrowing effect, while a light top section and a dark lower section draws attention up toward the face.

Multicolor stripes and geometric prints are the other common approach. They mix several colors in a repeating pattern, and they are easier to pair than solid blocks because no single color dominates.

When wearing a color t shirt with several shades, pick one of them for your trousers or shoes and keep everything else neutral. The outfit looks planned rather than busy.

If you prefer less color, choose a multicolor print with one strong color and several soft ones. The overall effect stays gentle.

Tribal and patchwork prints often mix five or six colors, yet they read warm and cohesive because the colors share an earthy undertone. They pair naturally with denim, olive and camel.

For more patterned options, browse graphic T-shirts; for striped styles in blue, blue graphic tees.

Which Color T-Shirt Suits You

Skin tone is the simplest guide. Warm undertones, often with golden or olive skin, suit warm colors such as coral, rust, mustard, olive and cream. Cool undertones, often with pink or blue-leaning skin, suit cool colors such as navy, raspberry, lavender and icy blue.

Neutral undertones can wear most colors. If you are unsure, hold two shirts near your face in daylight: the right color makes your skin look clear and awake, the wrong one makes it look tired or flushed.

For deeper exploration of individual shades, see pink graphic tees, green graphic tees, yellow graphic tees and purple graphic tees. For solids to layer, try plain T-shirts.

Whatever the color, the fit and fabric matter as much as the shade. A colorful tee in a flattering cut will get worn far more often than a perfect color in the wrong shape.

A small tip for mixing colors: stay within one temperature. Warm colors together, such as rust, mustard and olive, look harmonious; cool colors together, such as navy, lavender and teal, do the same. Neutrals bridge the two.
