Absolutely love this swimsuit. Color is perfect and is so comfortable.

Really cute and true to size. I think the top would sit a little nicer if I was more gifted in that area but overall measurements are exactly as advertised

Looks great and fits perfectly. Made well!

Love this suit! I bought it in another color! Fits perfect! I order the large, wear a size 12 normally, but large fits perfect! Love Modlily! My only place to buy bathing suits!

A halter neckline draws attention upward and inward, which changes what works underneath it. The shape has a natural triangle to it, and the bottom half either answers that or fights it.
Shorts balance it most reliably. They add width low down, which reads as proportion rather than as bulk, and they suit the days a halter is usually chosen for — boats, rocks, anywhere with a ladder. A skirt panel does something similar with more movement in it, and it is the pairing that photographs best because the two shapes echo each other.
A plain brief is the sharpest of the three and the one that needs the most confidence, because nothing below the waist is competing for attention. If that is the aim, a high waisted brief softens it by adding back some horizontal line at the waist.
Whichever you take, buy the halves to the same weight of fabric. A structured halter top over a very light bottom looks like two garments that met by accident, and it is the most common way a self-assembled set goes wrong.
Here is the thing nobody warns you about. A halter that ties at the neck is adjustable, which sounds like an advantage and is one, but it also means the bust sits wherever you happened to tie it that morning. Tie it an inch shorter and everything lifts; tie it looser and it drops. Two people describing the same top can be describing two quite different fits.
The fix is to stop treating the tie as a daily decision. Once you find the length that works, mark it — a stitch, a small bead threaded on, or simply the memory of which knot sits where. From then on it goes on the same way every time and the top behaves consistently.
It is also why an adjustable slider is worth more than a plain tie on something you expect to wear every week. The slider holds a setting; a knot has to be recreated. Halter tankini tops sold on their own will usually tell you which they use.
A flowy or swing body under a halter neck is a specific combination and it is more common than any other, for a good reason: the neckline holds the top in place from above, so the body of the garment does not need to grip in order to stay put. That lets the fabric skim rather than follow.
The trade is in the water. A loose body floats, and a halter has nothing at the side seam anchoring it down, so it lifts more readily than a fitted top of the same length. For an afternoon of standing in the shallows it is ideal. For lengths it is not, and a blouson cut with a gathered hem is the compromise that handles both.
These two get shortlisted together constantly, and the difference is where the load goes. A halter hangs the weight from the back of the neck. A high neck top spreads it across the shoulders and the upper chest, because the fabric itself is doing the holding.
For a shorter session or a fuller bust that wants lift, the halter is the more flattering of the two. For a whole day out, or for anyone whose neck already complains, the high neck is the one that is still comfortable at five o'clock. Plenty of wardrobes end up with one of each rather than two of either.
Sun is the other input. A halter leaves the shoulders and the upper back open, which is pleasant and which is also the area that burns first and is hardest to reach when reapplying. If the day runs from morning to evening outdoors, that alone decides it.
Halter sets arrive with the pairing already resolved, which is worth something on a shape where the balance between top and bottom matters as much as it does here. The bottom will have been drawn to the same print scale and cut wide enough to answer the neckline.
Buying apart gives you the neckline you want over the rise you already wear, and it is the better route once you know both numbers. The one thing to carry across is hem length: a halter that stops above the waistband undoes the proportion the neckline was chosen for, whatever the two pieces cost.
