Chocolate, Coffee or Light Brown

Brown is sold under more names than almost any other swim color, and those names are more useful than they look. Listings rarely say plain brown; they say chocolate, coffee, mocha, caramel, camel or tan, and each word points to a slightly different place on the shade card.

Chocolate and dark coffee sit at the deep end, close enough to black that a product photograph can flatten them. Coffee on its own usually means a mid brown with a little warmth, the shade most often paired with cream trim or a small print. Light brown, camel and caramel sit nearer to sand and feel summery and soft.

Because the names overlap, the photograph and the color swatch are the better guide. Check the product in more than one image, ideally one taken outdoors, since indoor studio light tends to push browns redder or grayer than they look on the beach.

Brown also works well on a triangle bikini, because the small cup leaves plenty of skin around the color, which keeps even the deepest chocolate looking warm and light.

Brown With Blue Polka Dots, Trim or Beads
