I tested the Black Tie Mid Waisted Tankini Set with a focus on fabric behavior, not just how it looks. The shell is 95% polyester with only 5% spandex, made in a jacquard knit with a stair-rib texture. That low spandex percentage means the fabric has less stretch recovery than the other tankinis in this group. When you pull it on, it has a firm, structured feel. The zigzag trim is woven into the texture, not printed, so it won’t crack or peel. The halter tie and V-neck create a long line, and the black base has a slimming effect.
Disadvantages: 1) With only 5% spandex, the fabric can feel less forgiving around the ribs, especially if you are between sizes. 2) The textured jacquard face can hold water a little longer than smooth nylon, so the suit may feel slightly heavier right after a swim. 3) The halter tie does not offer the same vertical lift as an underband bra; if you are a D cup or larger, this is not the suit for high-impact swimming or volleyball.
Solutions: If you are between sizes, size up for comfort. Rinse in cool water immediately after chlorinated or salt water to keep the black dye from dulling. Hand wash with a gentle detergent and lay flat in the shade. Do not wring or spin—the texture can stretch out. For larger busts, use the removable padded cups and tie the halter snug, but save this suit for lounging, sunbathing, and easy swimming rather than sprinting.
Nice design. Appears as pictured. Top is slightly large for my bust but pretty good. Overall I love it.
@jillene2024 Thanks Jillene! That’s helpful feedback on the bust fit. The halter ties do allow some adjustment, so smaller busts can pull the neck strap tighter. If you’re still between sizes, comparing your bust measurement to the size chart is the safest move.
